So I am going to be replacing my self destructing Dual Mass Flywheel and clutch this weekend. Is anyone interested in a write up on it, complete with pictures? From what I see and hear, Dual Mass to Single Mass Flywheel conversions are a common problem. Would a write up be a good idea?
Any info you share is greatly appreciated by others. there is always a need for write-ups and experiences that occur when working on your psd. a write-up is a great idea. good luck
NewRed, If you look at the H2e install link in my sig there are plenty of trans pics that may help. Also there is a few notes I have added in there that might help as well.
If I were you I would definately get uppipe donut gaskets and replace them at the same time. They are cheap and easy to do verses EXTREMELY hard with the tranny in.

Im hoping to throw in a whole new exaust while im at it.
Question for everyone! How do you remove the top two bell housing bolts on the trans? Between the Firewall and the turbo junk, I can't get to them. Do I go from the bottom? Top? Cut the truck in half?

After you have removed the trans support, cross member, shifter and everything else, lower the rear of the trans (make sure you do not lower it so much that your fan hits the radiator). Then use several long extensions with your rachet to reach over the top of the trans from the rear and remove the bolts.
They are not hard to get off. Unbolt the flywheel, and hit it with a rubber hammer on the edge, this will ussually make it just fall off (don't have any body parts under it when it falls). If it does not fall off use a large screwdriver to get behind the outer edge of the flywheel and pry it off.
Thanks! What kind of break in period does everyone use whith a new clutch? The instructions that came with the South Bend Clutch say 750 miles AND on the next page, it says 250 miles of city driving. Im thinking of just going in the middle and do 500 miles of city driving. Any thoughts?
With city driving you get more engage/disengage of the clutch (helps seat the clutch disk) than you do with highway driving. So 250 in the city would be good.
