Turbocharged Ford 223

I have found a transmission to fit in my truck behind the original 223. I have also acquired a t4 turbo. Apparently the 1 barrel Holley carb on the motor uses a standard Holley jet, so fuel tuning is gonna be easier...but has anyone turbo'ed one of these motors, or seen one done? I have been looking at the motor, and at the truck, and staying up late at night...And this would be WAY to easy. I am not wanting to build a drag truck, but maybe 5-6 lbs of boost. Really, just want to say it is boosted. I do have a concern about my rear gear, 3.73. That put the motor at 3000 rpm on the highway, and I am afraid that will put the motor into the boost on the highway, destroying the fuel mileage...So I am prolly gonna have to change that.

I've seen a picture of one. I seriously doubt he used the stock carb though. I'm sure it had a 4V carb and duel exhaust. Post some progress pics if you go that route. Third members can be swapped out easily enough to put in a different set of gears. There is also a 223 engine section, you may want to do a search there.

I am putting an aerostar front clip under the truck, so it is gonna have a small bolt pattern front wheel, so i am prolly gonna just look to swap the rear end with a small bolt pattern unit. I have found a 3.55 disc brake rear end out of a town car or grand marquis, I just have to make sure it is gonna match up width wise....I am gonna try it with the original carb for now. As for dual exhaust, that would require twin turbos....it may have split behind the turbo somewhere..

If you dont mind my askin where did you get the T4 turbo from and what did it cost you? keep us posted if you go this route as i have a coupla 300 - 6es that i would like to try that on. if it isn't cost prohibitive. at least if i know where the T4 came from i can keep an eye out for one.doing this would be way out of my league but am willing to give it a whirl. The one barrel needs some work to be in a blow through configuration. or as most do, build a plenum box around the carb and alleviate the seals leaking.

I did some horse trading for the turbo. If you look, there are some guys here on the late model forums with a turbo on their 300. I have actually just been thinking about running a pull-thru setup. Gotta do some more research, but that would eleviate some of the carburator issues, as far as sealing it up. Then I could upgrade to a 2 bbl holley, or motorcraft carb. Who knows. I think I can make it all work...and somewhat easily.
