Whats the widest tire you can put in the X with stock suspention and some wheel spacers (2"). Looking for a new stance.
Will a 285/75R16 with stock rims fit?
You won't need the spacers for the 285's, they will fit fine. I think others have gone to 305's without issues. I have 285 on now so I'm sure others will comment about the wider tires.

I have 285/75R16 on stock rims here too. no problems....
I know 315's will not fit on a stock EX. 305x70x16 might fit on a stock rim with no rub... but that means you are only using a 16x7 rim. Tire says narrow and looks smaller that it should. If you put a 305 70 16 tire on a 16x8 rim from what I have HEARD FROM THIS SITE... you get some rub at full turn with a STOCK EX. A 285x75x16 tire is only 1/2 inch smaller across than a 305x70x16... it is the same height. Roughly 33 inch. I am running a 16x9 inch rim with a 285x75x16 tire... no rub. My brother is running a 305 70 16 on a 16x8 inch weld rim on his truck. When we park our trucks next to each other the tires look the same size. The smaller/wider rim gives the allusion of a much bigger tire. EX: 16 inch rim VS. 20 inch rim. The 16 inch tire will look much beefier (bigger) than the 20 inch with the same tire mounted.
Ya I quoted myself...LOL!! Maybe this will help with your tire choice.
If you go with a 305 you might want to put a small lift on your truck. Check out leveling Kit Questions?? Post on the forum... good info if you do want to try a 305 with a bigger rim than stock.
I have 305/50 20's on GIO rims. Not sure about the spacers but my 305's only rub when I turn all the way to the steering stop. I just avoid it and it doesn't make a big difference in the turning radius that I can tell. Some may think my Ex looks a little on the pimp side but I think the wheel/rim combo looks great. To each their own.....
