Are you in fact losing your brakes or just the power assist? What, exactly, is leading
you to this diagnosis?

How does the engine run when you put it in park? Poor engine vacuum would affect the brake booster.

That`s a good one. However, other than perhaps a broken actuating rod, a faulty booster never caused a brake pedal to go to the floor. The pedal going to the floor is caused by a leaking hard or flexi pipe, leaking wheel cylinders or calipers, fluid leaking past the seals in the master cylinder or even badly out of adjustment shoes, or air in the system.
The odd thing in your case is when it happens. I can only think that you have a vacuum leak and you are not leaving it long enough in Park for vacuum to build up but when it does, after you shift to Drive, the booster then works and because of the other fault, the pedal goes to the floor.
Hope this helps.
