What version of the 351 would a 1981 F-150 have? I know its a 351, but I don't know if its the C,W, or M lol. I don't have the truck readily available to look at either. I will say it has HORRIBLE rod/crank knock, which leads me to think its the 351M. Motor is not stock, so it might not be original, but lets go with it is.
Despite its serious knock issues, it actually runs pretty good, and smooth lol.
Multiply this knock x8 for how bad it is. YOU CAN FEEL IT on the motor!
351M? Thanks. That's what I thought... and was afraid of. So it's got a boat anchor. The truck in the vid is not the truck, its an example of the engine knock the 81 has, except not nearly as bad (its a 1988).
A 460 should bolt right up then right? I would like to use the same trans, and motor mounts. I know the 302 would not, but if the 460 won't, then I'd probably go with the 302... better overall motor. Any other better engine options? I'm on a very tight budget (less than $300 say).
Less than $300 to spend, you had better pull the 351m and try to patch it together. The 460 will bolt up to the bellhousing, but you might oil filter fit issues and some other minor things that need to be changed.
The 351 m upper rad hose (temostat housing) goes into engine block as does 351 cleveland.Ceveland never came in a truck from the factory and they stopped making them in 1974.The 351w upper rad hose goes into intake manifold.
