It was a dealer add on. There was an original one on ebay a few months ago but if you look in JC Whitney you can buy the EXACT same one, still available from them.

The reason Ford came out with the Hi-Setter was, peeps complained that the rear bench seat on Super Cabs was mounted too low, so when Ford came out with this kit to raise it up, they also offered the optional gun safe or tool box.

The gunsafe was not the same as the toolbox. The outward appearance was the same, but when the door was opened, the dividers inside were different.
Numbers.Did ever see one/sell one in ur career ??

Besides the lockable steel Gunsafe & Toolbox mounted under the rear bench seat on Super Cabs, there were these two...

D8TZ1046100A .. Vertical Mounted In-cab Organizer

D8TZ1046100B .. Verical Mounted In-Cab Gunrack

Fits: All 1973/79 F100/350's without an in-cab fuel tank.

I just located one of the D8TZ1046100A's at a Ford dealer in Indiana.

But this dealer wants a small fortune for their obsolete parts.

They have a 1973/79 F100/350 tailgate (D7TZ9940700A) listed on the Ford dealer parts locator system.

When I called them to find out if it was genuine Ford, or a made in China repro, it turned out to be used, rusty, and they wanted 300 clams for it.

Junkyards out here in LA LA Land sell used tailgates for these trucks for 100 bucks, and they usually aren't rusty!

Yes, I sold several of these various gunracks over the counter, including one to myself.

I bought a 1979 Lariat Super Cab new, installed the Hi-Setter and the underseat gunsafe.

Prolly the worst mistake I ever made was trading this 1979 in on a 1988 S/Cab Lariat. There was NO comparison, the 1979 was a FAR better truck!

Sorry, it's as obsolete as the Dodo bird.

You might find one of the kits on fleabay, at a dealer or obsolete parts vendor.

But as far as ordering it from Ford...in two words: Im Possible.

Numberdummy, if you would could you send me or post the hi setter option, I'd like to see if it looks like the 4" rear seat lift that I got from jcwhitney years ago?

rear defost rare????

I guess iI am glad that mine went a buddy who is going to use it and bask in the glory rather than sell it and make money off it!!!
As far as the rear window foggin up, I had/have it happen w/ a clear front w/s...when you are plowing.., the side windows even fog up w/ the defrost on max!!
When I decided to sell the rear defrost set up I chose to have the rar slider and hopefully upgade to the rear power slider, which will get used alot more w/ the supercab and crew cabs, than the rear defrost would.

It's the same thing as the one JC produces/ed

It's the rarest 73-9 -FACTORY- option they made

How do you know that?

There were so many different accessories offered, it boggles the mind.

Ever see a FACTORY applied SPRAY ON Vinyl Roof?

It looked like a vinyl roof, but it was composed of "wrinkle" roof paint. Black & white were available.

How about a FACTORY installed Tonneau Cover?

How about the combo cigarette lighter/map light?

Or my all time favorite, the VACUUM ASHTRAY!

What's the difference?

The rear window defogger was an extra cost optional accessory.

So were the FIFTEEN different outside mirrors, the AM/FM radio, A/C, you name it.

What accessory wasn't an option?

A option is a item that is added to a base VEH and made by the VEH manafacturer and can go down the line as the VEH is built

A accesory can,but is not neccesarily made by the VEH manafacturer and is not put on as it goes down the line. It's put on/or requested by the buyer before delivery

The point I allready made in the 1st post is still the same. The rear de-ice
was the rarest option Ford made for the 73-9 trks. Are u saying the below items that u mentioned ealier were mass produced for 73-9 trks

Rather than argue any further, I suggest you find yourself either a Ford salesmans's data book or an accessory brochure...then note what accessories were options and were available factory installed.
