I don't believe my GPC is working since I can't hear it cycle and the truck is almost impossible to start when cold but is fine when plugged in. I did bypass the two power wires around the plastic connector so I know I have good power. Is there a way to test the controller or solenoid? If it's bad do I just replace the solenoid or the whole controller? Thanks in advance!
The solenoid is easy. If it is working it should power to the glow plug harness side when the controller activates. I'm not sure on the controller. I bypassed mine and went to a switch. It is easy and the diagram is on this site if you search it. Just be careful not to hold the switch more than 5 -7 seconds. You do not want to burn the glow plugs out. There is a ton if info on this topic on the site. All you need to do is search glow plugs under the 6.9 topic.

What year is your truck? You can start by checking to make sure that one of the big contacts has constant 12v going to it, then depending on which controller you have, you can excite the solenoid and make sure that the other big contact has 12v. If you are getting current there, then you can check to make sure that you are getting current to the glow plugs connectors, I would also check the ground for the glow plug controller. Check those few things and then post back with what you have found.
Thanks guys!! I'll check the connections and voltage. I have read there is a ton of amperage going through those wires. My guess is the constant 12v is key on only. I'll check and post back.
