New 2001 F250 Owner Here... Lot's Of Problems. 4x4 Won't Engage, No Cruise Control, Please Help!!!!!
New truck and already issues, sigh...So Frustrating.
1) 4x4 Won't Engage. No lights on dash when switched, no power to transfer case solenoid wires, someone removed the 2 front axel shafts as well! So I have a 2wd truck, but the switch still won't engage, and I want that fixed before I put new shafts in. Could they have disconnected something somehwere?
-Checked all fuses, relays, all plugs on the transfer case and transmission. I'm getting power to the shifter wire on the trans, and power to the wire on the front of the transfer case, but NO POWER to the actual solenoid motor wires when switched.
Is there supposed to be a constant flow of power to the solenoid when switched to 4x4 or is just a burst of power to engage it?
Again, no lights coming up on the dash, all fuses, relays are good and have power. Only thing I can think of the actual switch could be bad?
Help?
Also, the cruise control does not work. Could this part of the problem?
Thanks guys.

Generic Electronic module or "GEM" may be bad. This module controls everything from power windows, 4x4, cruise control, ect and doesn't generally go completely bad which is why some things still work. They are vehicle / options specific so for the most part you cannot go randomly pull one from a junk yard. Replacing this and the solenoid on the transfer case fixed my problem.

The GEM is located on the back of the fuse panel by your left knee when sitting in the driver's seat. I think the hardest part of replacing it (besides the cost) will be ensuring you get the correct one (there are over 700 variations). This was one of the few times I had a dealership do the work as I was too busy to do it myself at the time. Recommend googling "7.3 gem module" and researching. The topic comes up a lot.
