As the title says, it was a bad day. As a few of you may know my truck has been at Ford since the 19th. I took it in to have the whistling noise checked out and the leak I had. Well, the service manager assured me they knew where the problems were and it would be taken care of. So today, I get the call that the truck is ready to pick up. Well, I had to find someone to take me to get it, so I had the g/f take off work at 3:30 to ensure we would make the 5pm closing time. Well, traffic turned out to be worse than expected and we were not going to make the 5pm closing. I call the service dept and ask if they could just leave it outside, with all the reciepts of what was done to the truck. I also, make sure to tell him not to lock it cause I only have one set of keys, which he has. Well, when I do get to ford its about 5:10pm, the truck is locked. Luckily, some of the sales managers are still around and they call pop-a-lock. After waiting and hour and thirty mins my truck is finally unlocked. So, I jump in the truck, fire it up, let it warm up a bit and start down the road. I did not get a 100 yards from the dealership when I hear a loud pop under the hood followed by a loud grinding noise. I look at all the gauges and notice I have no boost at all. So I turn around and back to Ford I go. Again luckily the sale manager was just closing up, so I get to put the truck in the service bay. So tomorrow I am calling the service manager up to see what is up with my truck now. If any of you all might have some insight, please share. I am assuming, but maybe when they were working on the whistle they didnt get everything back together properly . I was really looking forward to having my truck back, since I needed it about 3 days ago with all this weather we have been having. But I guess it will be another week or two before I get it back now. Sorry for the long thread but I just needed to vent for a minute or two.
It had a loud whistling noise and was leaking a red fluid. They said the whistling was due to something in the exhuast, really didnt go into much detail. The red fluid was windshield washer fluid somebody had put in the power steering before I got the truck.
What shape is the Power Steering in? Where was it leaking from? was it whistling within the 100 yards? Im not sure how you would hear any "other" whistling noise over the turbo as it is. I would think the PS unit wouldn't take too kindly to the washer fluid quickly.
While it was in getting the whistling noise fixed, they flushed the power steering and they think it should be ok. When I got the truck back today, it did not whistle at all anymore, it was fine until I heard the pop. When it popped I lost all boost and could hear a grinding noise, like metal on metal rubbing. I think it sounded like the turbo spinning but rubbing real hard.
FireMe, I think you were right. I got the truck back today and they said the duct was secured correctly when they put it back together. Now, I have another issue. I noticed when I turn my heat on in the truck there is a loud popping under the dash. If you turn it off nothing, but as soon as you turn it back on, loud pop. It continues to pop in intervals and I think it might be a little louder when sitting still idling. Any idea what it may be?

The truck uses a vacuum system to control vent settings. I bet you have a vacuum leak and the door that directs air to the ducts is slamming shut when the vacuum gets weak...or the other way around. Maybe it is slamming when the vacuum builds up. Does it do it in all the vent settings or just one?
My truck does sort of the same thing but only in one of the vent settings. Every once in awhile I can hear the air flow door shutting. It's not super loud but it's annoying. I the heat works great so I haven't worried about it too much since it's not bad.
I will have to check to see what all settings it does it in. I do know it was doing it with the truck set on defrost with the dual heat settings on. So is there a way to fix it? The truck did not do it until I got it back from the cab off repair.
So is the Mechanical aspect of the truck ok? what was the result of the whistling in the exhaust or whereever? what was the popping you heard originally?
The whistling ended up being somewhere after the Y-pipe in the exhaust. The mechanic took it all apart and replaced some gaskets and no more whistling. The loud pop I heard yesterday when I picked it up was some type of hose for the turbo. The mechanic did not get it on tight and when the truck boosted up it blew it right off. Now I am on to another problem with the vacuum in the hvac now.....fun stuff.
These guys are suppose to be trained. You ever watch in the service bays, music going and constant bullsh@#ting going on. Couldn't imagine why they cant' get it fixed right. But hey, that's are society now.
