Intermitent climate display

Has anyone ever had this hapen to them. I drove my SD early this morning and parked my truck for about 2 hours. Later I thought I would take the truck for a wash to get all the salt off the truck. As I was driving I noticed that it seemed cold so I leaned over to increase the temp, but the display was out....not even the outside temp showed. I thought maybe a fuse, I'll take care of that when I get home. Just as I enter the truck was the automatic head lights came on (like normal) and the climate control display came back too. This has never happened before. Has anyone ever experianced this as well?

Funny you should mention that. My truck will sit for weeks and weeks since I only use it to pull my 5th-wheel. Last month I took it to the gas station to top off before hooking up. On the way I noticed my climate control was off and there was nothing I could do to get it to come on. While refueling I looked through my owners manual for a possible fuse problem and found nothing. When I restarted the truck the climate control came back on and worked fine for my whole trip. Of course the truck has been sitting again for about a month so who knows what will happen the next time I start her up.

Well Headviking, I'm kind of surprise no one has any thoughts on this issue.

This is well known problem on the digital displays of Ford. Turn your healight switch on and off 3 times and it "resets" the heater display. Dont ask me why, but I know that is the fix. I had the same problem on my 2005. If you do a search in the 6.0L forum there is a write up on this, at least at one point there was.

Thanks Pittsburgh that's something I never would have thought of.

I never thought of looking in the 6.0 forum. As you can see by my signature I have no reason to visit that forum.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info.Pittsburgh-05HD ..You say it resets the heater display. Do you mean that if this happens again to just turn on and off my headlights 3 times and everything will go back to normal?

Correct! Again dont ask me why. I had the exact problems with my truck. One day it was about 10 degrees out and I had no display what so ever. I found the answer on the 6L forum since that is what my truck was. You dont even have to turn the truck off, just turn the switch on and off 3 times and "presto".

There is a problem with the relays inside the EATC unit. They stick and it causes the unit not to turn on. Turning the headlights on and off or restarting the truck will sometimes get them to unstick. Eventually this will stop working also, then you have to replace the EATC unit with a new one. If you are under the 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty the next time it goes out drive directly to a Ford dealer and have them look at it while it is out and order a new one.
