Oil Drain Valve

Hey guys,I was on Guzzles website and saw two different valves for sale, one with a nipple and one without.Does anyone have any experience with these, and why would one be better than the other? Thanks.

I would think one with a nipple would be nice. You could put a short piece of hose to lessen the mess.

I bought the one with the nipple, thinking it would be useful to put a piece of hose on as motown said. Haven't installed it yet though.

No nipple on mine, don't see the need to put a hose on the drain valve. They drain slower than the OEM plug (at least on the 7.3L) so keep that in mind also.

I got the one with a nipple, but I haven't used a hose on it yet. My truck's high enough a 5 gallon bucket fits under it perfect and I just use that. I really do like the valve though. I drive the truck around long enough to get the oil warmed up, then crawl under, place the bucket, and start draining. I drain the HFCM or replace the fuel filter every other time while I'm under there. Then I go up top and replace the oil filter/fuel filter and check everything out up there. By the time I'm done with that it's usually done draining. I go under, close the valve and then go up top and fill it up.

I have seen them, but I am paranoid the valve might open when driving. That would be my luck.

It would be very hard for that to happen, but I'm a little paranoid too so I put a stainless hose clamp around the end which helps make sure it won't open up.

I can't offer anything other that what's already been said, but I have a clamp on my for the paranoia factor as well. I've got one for the wife's ride when that comes due for an oil change. I got both with nipples just because I have a fascination with nipples...

Even if the valve were to open and dump all of your oil, it would shut down because your injectors require normal oil pressure to function.

Ya but there you are a mile from anywhere or buried in the mud and no oil, at least when you get oil your engine isnt toast.

For me, whats 1 more wrench in an oil change. 8 lugs on a tire rotation is more a pain in the butt.

I didn't particularly see a real need for the nipple either, but I figured why not get it in case I ever do.

The reason I got this valve was to save the drain plug threads. I plan to keep this truck until it dies (like I did with my '84 Ranger at almost 300k miles RIP). With oil changes every 3000ish miles that's quite a few times of removing/reinstalling the drain plug.

I just thought it would be an easy way to keep from having to fix those threads one of these days.

Can these valves be used on the 5.4L engines? The website states that the valve is for the 7.3L, 6.0L, and 6.4L diesel engines.
