I just ordered one of these myself and still have a couple thousand miles to my next change.

My question is regarding the old drain plug v. the Fumoto. Doesn't the old drain plug have a magnet in the tip to catch any shavings? I know that the Fumoto does not. Is there a recommended workaround for this?

Some guys just stick a rare earth magnet to the bottom of the pan. I guess it helps keep iron particles at the bottom. Personally I think the iron would stay there anyway, and the magnet is just for inspection purposes. Oil analysis does that job for me, so I don't care about the magnet.

Bearings are the first thing to normally wear anyway. They are made of copper and wont stick to a magnet.

I looked at these awhile back, but thought it might catch on something hanging an extra 2" below the oil pan.

On an off-road vehicle that would be a concern...

These things are overpriced junk. And they are way more prone to failure than the good old henry ford free oil plug. I mean how lazy can u get. And the drain time is twice as long so what are u saving. And no the threads won't wear out if u don't go crazy on the wrench.

I have a nippled one. I love it. It was reasonably-priced and seems a quality-made product.

It saves me a bit of mess each oil change, and makes pulling an oil sample easy.

Though drain time is longer, actually much more than twice as long, I just open the valve and go do something else, anyway.

I'm getting one for my wife's new Pilot, as it has an aluminum pan, and I'm taking no chances with THOSE threads.

Finally got around to installing mine a few weeks ago. I would agree its a quality product and reasonably priced.

I got the one with the nipple and I'm gonna put a piece of hose on there to save the mess. Oil always flies outta there and splashes all over the place (sway bar, axle, ground, me, etc).

Also, I do think it will help save the threads as I had this problem on my old Ranger after about 140k miles of oil changes and no, I wasn't "crazy" on the wrench.

Lastly, I'm not typically in a big hurry to get an oil change done, so the longer drain time isn't a concern.

This unit is highly recommended on this site, so I decided to give one a try.

Where are you getting your information from? Have you held one of these in your hand? I have, and they are made quite well. I have a lot of experience with valves.

How are they prone to failure? Do you know someone who has had one fail? I did quite a bit of research before purchasing one of these valves and couldn't find any reported failures.

Lazy? Anyone who does their own oil changes is automatically exempt from that title.

I like it because I don't have to wipe oil off of my hand, I don't have to worry about dropping my drain plug in the oil bucket, and I don't have to try to pour three plus gallons of oil through a funnel into gallon jugs. I just fill them up one at the time, straight from the oil pan with no mess.

I am surely not lazy and this would work for me perfectly. I'm running 37" tires and can't fit my truck in the garage to change the oil. I have to do it in the driveway. Do you know how windy it is in Wyoming? Here in Cheyenne, I can smell a fart that was let loose in Salt Lake.

I'll be ordering one of these with the nipple right away. The 4 one gallon jugs would do great for me with a hose on them. No splatter all over the driveway and a simple pan held up for the filter removal works for me.

Is the F106 the one I need for a 99 PSD?

Thanks
Dave

You need the F-111 for any diesel engine after 1995. See link below for details:
