you should get the smoked lights instead of just the clear ones they look sick do u have a billet grill on ur truck. are u buying the headlights of ebay?
Im not sure how smoked would look on a red truck. No I dont have a billet grille. I have pics in my album if you would like to see. Yes im buying the headlights from ebay.
Well got the HIDs all finished up and here are the pics.
So far I love them. Very easy to install, not brighter light just idk "different" light. I can look right into the headlight and not get blinded like with halogens. Its so much easier to see street signs too.
Is this right? I want to make sure I get the right ones before I order.
4 916 bulbs in super white (parking lights)
2 3157 bulbs in amber (turn signals)
Thanks
We were talking about the subject.
Did the kit you got allow for use of high beams or is it low beam only?
Anyway, to answer your other questions.
The tail and turn should be 3157 and 3157a (for amber) if you have clear parking like I do.
The parking/side marker lights are supposed to be 916, but I have 194 in mine, because the 916 melted the bulb socket on both sides. I'm referring to the little side lights not the ones that are part of the parking/turnsignal lights.
Autozone, Advance, Orielly etc should have a flasher that will work. I think just having a heavy duty electronic flasher designed for trailer lights will work. It is designed to work the same with or with out the added load of trailer lights. So, I would think that the reduced load on it from the LED bulbs would be fine as well.
I have this one. Its an EL12. Its a variable load flasher. I got it at Autozone.
As far a billet grilles go, I only think they look good on the 80-86. The ones for 87-91 and 21-96 don't have the surround and look like they are missing something. A few members of this site modified their existing grille and used it as a surround for a billet. That looks pretty good.
O and the kit was low beam only. I barely ever use my highbeams but I might upgrade to the high/low HID kit one day. Im looking into the H3 HID kit for my fog lights right too.
What makes the HID lights illegal? I've looked at the different sites and it seems as long as you get a kit that is under 6000 you wont be throwing lots of glare into on coming traffic, but for best visual perfomance you'd want the 5000's
What you stated about the so called color temperature is correct for the most part.
Its that the headlight housing was not made for HID so it still has potential for a lot of glare. This means that although the bulb is in the same location the filement is not. You have to use those expensive ugly projectors to do it correctly. Also, the retrofit kits are not made to the same tolerances as the OEM ones on the newer cars that come with HID. Its also illegals because of the potential problem of being installed improperly. There are some retrofit kits that are legal but they cost much more.
I think the reason his does not glare quite as much is because of his headlights. They will perform differently in different vehicles because not all headlight assemblies are created equal.
