Has anyone ever replaced the bolt holding the harness to the PCM? I had a buddy helping me put my truck back together and I looked over a few seconds too late after he snapped the bolt off in the PCM. I have removed the broken piece with an easy out in the PCM but can seem to get the other piece out of the harness. Any Advice?
I've never heard of this before. My first thought would be to cut the head off the bolt so that it slides out. Problem is, I'm afraid you'll find the bolt has a smaller shank under the head since you can't get the broken bolt out. If that's the case, the next problem will be how to find a replacement bolt that fits.
Are you sure there's not a snap ring or something holding the bolt in there?
Without seeing a pic it would be hard to say. If you can get too it easily I would say to carefully drill out the rest of the bolt, undersized of course. Then I would try to take a screwdriver and turn it out by tapping it with a hammer or just some way of spinning it out. Once worked out I would tap the hole just to dress the threads up a bit.
Finally got it. Had to gring the head off and slide it through the back. The aluminum collar got broken a bit but I found another bolt and put a washer on it and it is all bdck together now, but still not running. Whe I turn the key on I get all the dash lights but no fuel pump, and the wait to start light doesn't go out. I hear a few things cycle in the front then I hear the abs unit makes some sort of groaning sound.
The only time I've seen the WTS light not go out was when the main engine wiring harness shorted near the 42 pin connector. If you've hot a helper, have them turn the key on and watch that light while you move the wiring harness that comes up and over the drivers side valve cover. This harness goes to a square box that has a bolt through the middle of it. Also check the wires coming out the back side of this box. If one of them has been rubbing against metal, it can cause a short to ground that will keep the truck from starting. If you wiggle the wires and the WTS light goes out, try starting it then.
If it starts, find that chaffed wire before it leaves you stranded in Oklahoma. At least that's where it left me.
