Matt: that hook is actually there to hang a grocery bag on... but i like having the keys to my barn there. Seeing as i never go buy groceries with my truck.
Steve: I really like having it there it is out of the way and very easy to see and play with settings while driving.
What did you use to mount yours????
nolan.. when i was in metal trades i made a bracket to cheap to spend 15bucks ha ha i just screwed it in the center console there. it holds good thing i dont like is the speaker faces back into the little cubby hole kinda muffled.
Here's a bracket I bent up and covered in matching naugahyde to mount my mini-Uniden.
When I don't want it in the truck, I disconnect the co-ax, unplug the power, and it lifts right out.
The co-ax comes into the cab alongside the shifter cable. Needed to use some silicone grease to get it to do that!
It feeds a Wilson 1000 mag-mount on the roof, and the co-ax goes along the frame rail to the back of the cab, then up onto the roof between the rear window and the shell.
It does a pretty-fair job out on the road. I don't use it around town at all.
I went with the high center mount. Since my trucks an XLT it does not have an overhead console to deal with. All the coax, and power is run just inside the headliner. I have it wired to one of my switches in the 650 dash so that way I won't accidently leave it on when I park the truck.
Brandon that is what I wanted to do when I was installing the CB but I couldn't get the bracket to work and have it sit level like that.
Spent a long time trying different ways and finally gave up and mounted it on top of the dash.
Kinda redneck but it works.
