How can you isolate and eliminate alternator noise. When my truck is turning @ 1800- 2000 rpm I develop a whine that is heard thru the speakers, EVEN when the radio is off.
HELP!!!
Jon
Its your alternator.....i'm guessing you have a 04 - 06.......many others have had the problem and have fixed it by swapping out the alternator...i'm also gunna bet yours only does it when its very cold out?
mine does it all the time in my 04..it dont matter what temp but its between 1,000-1,800 rpm....and if its below 0 around 2,000 it will make a bad whistle but it goes away after a few sec
The alternator in my '06 whines all the time when its cold out, but it usually goes away after its been running for 5 minutes or so if not sooner. If you are hearing the noise coming through your radio speakers, then your factory radio might not be hooked up correctly or its picking up the interferrence in the wiring itself. I would check all the connections at the radio and make sure the metal case is grounded properly. Even adding another ground wire would not hurt anything. Just be sure to disconnect the negative lead of the battery first before doing any wiring so you won't fry stuff. You have not added any aftermarket plug wires or anything like that? These can cause what you described if the wires are not shielded. Even if all this checks out, but the noise is still there, you can eliminate the interferrence noise by installing an aftermarket noise filter on the radio. Hope this helps!
i have got the dvd system in my 05 and i notice when i plug something into the aux rca ports i get a whine. the higher rpm, the higher the whine. im thinking its a bad ground but just havent got around to finding it.
