1990 460 starter

I need advice.
Replaced the stock starter with a rebuilt.
after that I have replaced 5 Starters and 3 ring gears.
The starter does not ingage the ring gear fully and eats the teath off the ring gear.I need to replace the ring gear again but would like to find the problem. the truck is a F250 4x4 with a 460 and 5sp Manual Trans. any info would help

Perhaps you've been putting automatic starters in it? I'm not sure about big blocks, but with a small block, the manual and auto starters are different.

The 460 only shows one starter for both the automatic and manual trans in 88-92
