I need to get my 150 inspected in a week and I was wondering if I need to install a muffler to pass??? Anybody pass without a muffler in New York State??????? I have a stock cat but no muffler... Please help. Thanks

 

Chris, the muffler has no effect on emissions. Its only job is to keep things quiet. But the test also has nothing to do with emissions. It is only an excuse to collect another tax from people. If you happen across an inspector in a poor mood, he may flunk you because it is loud, reguardless of how clean it runs. Then he would get to reinspect later and collect the tax again. If it were me, I would get a muffler, get inspected, then go home and take it back off. DF
