I have heard that since I dont have a EGR I need to recurve my dist, I was just thinking I would upgrade it, its an old stock distributor. What brands are best and will that help my pinging? I am running 91 octane, thats the premium where I have been buying gas. Its 9.5:1...... fresh .040 bore maybe 300 miles on build.
Our DUI's and Durasparks are on sale now!

If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our custom curved Duraspark Distributor built with our new Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing. The full length bushing improves timing stability and spark scatter. If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. Whether you choose the Duraspark or the D.U.I., we curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at:
http://performancedistributors.com/forddistributors.htm
Also, there is now an excellent installation article on the D.U.I. Distributor on the Ford-Trucks.com site at:

1) If the DUI Distributor is too big in diameter to fit into your motor for some reason, we can build a Duraspark.

2) If the Duraspark is too big with the large diameter cap & cap adaptor set-up, we can build a Duraspark with a Small diameter cap.

I went with a Mallory HEI setup. It looks great and works great, no more pinging. Only problem is my nice brand new Ford Racing aircleaner wont fit because the dist is too tall. For now I bought a smaller air cleaner, but i was wondering if there was any type of spacer to raise the air cleaner. I was told by a guy at work that mid 80's chevy pickups with a 350 quadrajet setup had a spacer under the aircleaner and i was thinking that should lift it up high enough. Any one else have any ideas
