ok sorry guys i know it's not a PSD ? but i don't know anyone else to ask i got a 1974 JD 1050 diesel tractor and it's like under 30 here and it won't start this cold and JD can't get me a new glow plug thing for a few days and at $108 and i need to get this thing started so anyone know any tricks on geting a diesel to start without glow plugs?
yup, what he said. ether is common for the old school tractors, just be sure to disconnect the glow plug first, and also make sure the fuel is not gelled up. also pull it around in gear for a faster spin on the motor, works good on weak battereis
block heater helps but wont solve it, be sure the fuel isnt gelled and hit it with some ether,
disconnect the glow plug, start cranking and while cranking have someone spray ether in it
If you could generally start it without the glow plug heater, then the block heater should do the trick. My IH 966 doesn't have any kind of preheat, but it was equipped with ether shot. I don't need the ether if I keep it plugged in for a while.
Put a tarp over it and put some electric heaters in it.
Charge the batterys.
Once you have it charged up and warmed up a little, give it a shot of ether and it should go, if all thats stopping it from going is the cold.
