You think this is bad? Just wait it's going to get 10 times worse or maybe even worse than that! The mortgage crisis has just begun! The 3/1 and 5/1 A.R.M. mortgages scheduled to go adjustable in the next 3 years is staggering! We are just barely scratching the surface of this mess!!
The amount of Residents in negative equity positions in there homes are also staggering. With no ability to re-finance out of adjustable mortgages and no ability to sell these homes, many Americans are going to be hurting something fierce pretty soon! Don't mean to be negative but it's just the plain simple truth! Save your money and hold on it's gonna be a very bumpy ride for at least the next 4-6 years!
Just have to listen to Dave Ramsey then. Pay down the mortgage and any credit cards off as soon as possible. Save and look harder. If possible start up a business of your own. (a lot of small businesses started during similar times) Learn to budget and try as much as possible to live within your means (yeah, I know.....). Pay cash whenever possible and don't touch those credit cards (unless you absolutely have to) Get back to "basics".
Always remember......READ the FINE Print! That is what got so many people in trouble.
It used to be mortgages were hard to get and you had to have a certain amount of collateral to be considered "loanable". Then came the loosening of those strictures over the past few years (and this goes back further than Bush's watch......) so more people could buy into the "dream" of owning their own home. Well, that might get some politicians reelected....but it certainly doesn't help if the constituents get shafted later.
As for the layoffs, I look further back, historically, and see what has gone on before. Yes, it looks bad, but the US has weathered hardtimes before and Americans manage to get back up on their feet. No, it will not be the same as before....but it never was quite the "same" prior to those either.
My question is just where are these hundreds of thousands of people now with no jobs going to work? Im talking about a real job. Not part time with NO benefits.
If unemployment is such a big concern, why do we have illegal aliens as well as legal non-Americans taking jobs in the U.S.? I work for a large corporation. We have at least 300 Indian computer programmers working jobs in the U.S. They, like illegals, are reducing pay levels for their professions. Rescind all of the green cards and ship the illegals back home if you want to increase the employment rate.

I agree and dont want to start a subject that will get canned,BUT speaking of people that lose their jobs. These people will most likely become more and more upset when THEY SEE PEOPLE HERE WORKING THAT SHOULDNT EVEN BE HERE.....history shows us what happined to ROME.....the barberians came in unchecked and undermined their society. They engaged in pleasure and greed while leaving their land open to attacks.......go figure
