Howdy folks,Been a Ford guy for many years. Like to still own some from my past. Too many to mention. Retired from the Army in '83. Taught welding while in the service at APG, MD. Just retired from my welding/fabrication business last year. Sold my truck, 79 F350, w/400 cid engine. Still running strong when I sold her. Still have my 2000 Ranger w/3/0 flex fuel. That's approachng 99,000 miles. I've also got a 81 F350 dump truck, and our motor home has the Ford 460, with full Banks stuff. That 460 will run with the big boys. The Ranger is giving me some problems right now. Won't start. Check engine light is on. Going to get my buddy down the road to bring his code reader and see what's going on. While waiting for him, I'll change the fuel filter (learned what to do from this forum today, glad I read it), and check the fuel pump. One question, if I turn the key on will I be able to hear the pump working? Or, should I test voltage to the pump wires?Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim
Welcome to FTE Jim, always great to meet a Ford guy!

As far as I know you should be able to hear the pump if the key is in the on position.

Buddy came down with his code reader, I went out to the garage, the Ranger was running. I asked what he did? Turned the key, it started right up. Earlier today it acted like it was having a fuel problem. Being it's been steady cold here lately, I added a bottle of dry gas and 5 gallons of gas. After cranking for awhile, it started. Might be a faulty sending unit (it showed a little over a quarter tank), or, I had some bad gas with water that froze in the line or filter. Anyway, it's running great now. Going to install a new filter tomorrow. Thanks for the quick response. Jim
