Heya from Kentucky
I've managed to deal with all the mechanical repairs and maintenance for the "old stuff", but that Ranger is killing my shadetree mechanic spirit right now.
It's my wife's truck and about three weeks ago the "check engine" light came on. The computer diagnostic thingie said it was the EGR valve. That got replaced and things were ok for about a week or so. Also, the fuel filter was clogged up with something thick and black (we live in the serious backwoods of eastern KY on a doubtful dirt road, so that was no big surprise), so the fuel filter was replaced as well.
Less than two weeks later, wife is coming home from an evening meeting and the Ranger decides to take a crap. The truck idles great (and can move about one mph in first gear), but put pressure on the gas pedal and the truck dies.
A friend who is a Ford-trained technician said it was the fuel filter and fuel pump and that the fuel was contaminated.
Well, yet another new fuel filter, a new fuel pump and, checking the existing fuel in the tank reveals there's not a thing wrong with the quality of the fuel). Ranger is still fuel-starved. And wife has not had her truck for almost two weeks now (she is NOT happy).
Ideas?
