I have always just replaced them, as I believe you can not repair them-if it was just the aluminum, not a problem, but where it meets the plastic is a problem area, unless you know a radiator shop in your area, and ask for their opinion...
It rarely works on an older radiator, but you might try re-crimping the tabs that secure the end tank to the core. If that doesn't work, then you should just go ahead and buy a new one.
I'd just replace it. I replaced mine last year and it wasn't all that hard. The only thing that gave me some trouble was loosening the tranny cooler lines from the radiator itself. Once I was done, I took the old radiator to a scrapyard and got 10 bucks for it.
The side tanks and side tank gaskets are replaceable. Go to a radiator shop and they should be able to give you a quote. It will be much cheaper if you go ahead and remove the radiator from the truck. Last time I had some repaired I paid $40 to replace the gaskets and $70 to replace both tanks.
The first version of the 'crimp on' tanks was repairable, but the 97 shop manual says the are no longer fixable. Take it to a radiator shop and ask them if they can repair the leak. What's to lose? If they cannot fix it, head on over to you local parts store.

About 3 years ago I noticed the rad on my 91 Explorer was leaking at the seal between the tank and core.I covered the area with some stuff called "Automotive Goop".It looks like silicone but it dries into a semi-hard rubber. It is still holding.I think the reason it works is it remains slightly flexible so it can expand and contract with the rad.
