I give up for tonight. Probably the first of many questions with my new AE that Santa brought me.
I finally installed the ae software and entered the code for the ford enhanced.
No problems.
It connected to the "focus" ok. No problems. But connecting to the truck it seems i am missing something or something is wrong. It will not connect.
I found some info to select "non obdii" and leave the protocol on "auto-detect" But the warning keeps popping up.
I dug and found more info to set this protocol to "j11850pwm" with the "non-obdii" selected. This right? still would not connect. The garage was very cold 15degrees tonight so i started shivering and quit for the night plus it is 10pm and past my bedtime.
A few minutes ago i found even more info yet that my fuse might be blown on my cigarette lighter. I remember something about that on my last trip that it didn't work. I think. I will check the fuse in the morning. And even that i might have my door open(chime). But i had the door open on my focus(chime) with no problem. I don't know. I will monkey around with it tomorrow. Any suggestions? Am i missing something?
That is what i originally thought and the setting that let it connect to the "FOCUS". But did not connect to the truck.
I found this on ITP web sight. ITP Powerstroke Diagnostic Hints
Says to put in "non-OBDII" though. Is this wrong? What does the versions 4.2/4.3 mean? I tried in in OBDII compliant also.

When you first launch the AutoEnginuity software there are some settings that need to be modified. The settings below are what we recommend to get the best results when connecting to Powerstroke Diesel vehicles. Connection to other vehicles may require changes to these settings. All of these settings are located in "Communications Configuration" on the "Vehicle" menu.
* Computer Interface:
o Select "Auto Detect Serial Port" ONLY if you are using a Serial version of the AutoEnginuity tool
o Select "USB or Manually Set Serial Port" for USB versions of the AutoEnginuity tool
o I prefer to turn off "Automatically Connect on Launch" so I can start the software without it trying to connect
* Vehicle Interface:
o "Vehicle Interface Type" should be "Auto Detect" to allow connection to 7.3L and 6.0L trucks without changing settings
o "Initialization Type" should be "Ford Powerstroke" (versions 4.2 or earlier) or "Non-OBDII" (versions 4.3 and higher)
NOTE: This setting will need to be changed to "OBDII Compliant" if connecting to a non-Powerstroke vehicle
o "Use Fastmode CAN" and "Use Heartbeat" should not be selected
* The above settings are automatically saved. You won't need to adjust these unless you change them to connect to a different vehicle.

What did you put in for Vehicle information? I have mine set on OBD-II compliant. After setting year and make it should bring up Ford enhanced on that screen
The cigarette lighter is on the same circut as the OBD port under the dash. So if it's not working likely the port isn't going to work either. This is assuming that's where AE works from since I don't have a clue about that....LOL

It won't let me add vehicle information unless it is connected. On page 16 of the user guide is states after it connects, a window will appear were you will enter this vehicle selection.. ON the focus i seen no such screen once it connected. Nothing popped up for that.
This is a picture of my screen after i open up scan tool. The vehicle selection is greyed out.

click on connect..it will try to log onto the PCM..then a box will open up for vehicle selection.. I have mine set on OBD-II compliant and auto detect...i just up loaded 7.0 havnt had time to try it yet...
Dan, leave the "vehicle inteface type" to J1850 PWM and the "initialization type" to Non OBD-II Only. Those are the correct configurations for AE on the PSD. Some people can get it to work on auto detect and OBD-II compliant, but it varies by PCM on whether or not it will work.
Like the others have mentioned, if your cig lighter doesn't work, you cannot connect. Check the fuse, it's common to see this happen.
Also as Jeff mentioned, the key must be in the run position in order to use AE on the PSD. If not, it will not connect.
Well it appeared on the last trip we must have blew the cigarette lighter fuse.
It had a 15amp in there(supposed to be 20amp) and it was number 3 slot.
I replaced it with a 20. And it connected but kept getting this warning it it would get stuck here. It would not pull up VIN on its own like it did with the focus. SO i entered the fields manually. It was on "auto detect" "OBDII-Compliant"
After rebooting pc(an older win 98 laptop.slow which might be the problem now it is running xp) It connected up and it took took the vehicle information just fine. And came up with this info. What is a B1302 and a P0743 mean. P0743 my TC lock when i ingage the tc manually?
So it appears i had success this morning. But to dang cold out there. The truck is being stored for the winter. (keep it from salt) I didn't start it.
It would not pull up VIN on its own like it did with the focus.
Don't worry about pulling up the VIN, it doesn't work correctly on the PSD's.
As for the codes, the one for the T/C you can ignore since you said you have a manual T/C lockup switch. So it's natural for a code to be set with that. As for the B1302, clear the codes and see if it pops back up on a regular basis. If it doesn't, you can ignore it. Every now and then I get random "B" codes that only pop up once, and never happen again.
