Was just wondering if anyone has tried the Heartthrob deep tone dual exhaust that JCWhitney sells. If so how did you like it and was it easy to install? I just ordered and should be receiving it shortly.
exhaust? from JC Whitney? good luck dude. they're good for body and stuff like that, but I don't know if I would trust them with anything that affects the way my truck runs
I bought that exhaust from JC Whitney. I loved it. I had to make a few adjustments to it though. On a ford 87-96 There is two cats. These cats quiet the exhaust alot, much like a muffler. I knocked out my rear cat so i could get good sound. I did this on my 300 six. The muffler tips that come with it really suck. thae really quiet the sound. Me best advise to you is to throw the muffler tips away and get some nice chrome tips (I put on 22X31/2 tips on mine)or just put some pipe in place of them. If you ordered the on with the stainless tips you can gutt them. All these tips are just glasspacks with a flat end. The guts are just tak welded in by a round plate at the end.
I have this same system on my new truck (A 92 F150 NITE) with a 302. IT sound really loud. THe truck already had the tips and pipes but i cut off the cat. If you do not want it to loud just get some hollow tips and leave the cats. If you want it louder just knock out or cut off the rear cat. This is still a really nice system, it comes with a really nice Y pipe and the rest of the pipes fit perfect. Hope this helps.
what if i just mounted in right up to the straight pipe, and use the tips the way they are, how do you think that would sound. I should be getting the dual exhaust next week, i hope.
I live right next to JC Whitney and I see a lot of trucks here with them on and they definatly have the v-8 sound. They are deep and rumbiblyy. But I have 4 cats on my 4.0 SOHC and I do not know how it would sound if I put one on. If you do not have a few cats on there would try a glass pack before the kit. The muffler tips are stright though. I am not sure how they would look on a flareside.
Got the system yesterday and got it put on. I wish the tips didn't have the glasspacks, but it is pretty loud being as i have no cats. Might take the glasspacks out some day, or look for some different tips.
Those tips are junk. They are too quiet. When I put on my chrome 31/2x22 tips it sounded alot better. I can amagine that yours would sound alot better without the cats, but a six is not a very loud motor. (to me anyways) I really like the mandrel bent pipes no crimps so it flows awesome.
