fast idle
On a very cold morning does your truck immediately go up to 2000 rpm for about 2 seconds on start up and then drop back down to 1200 rpm? Seems kind of silly that it would rev so high when the oil is so cold and might not have reached all the places it needs to be. I've got a feeling this isn't normal but there are no trouble codes. It's a 2005 F-150 5.3L. Thankyou.

It's normal. It's called hi-cam. We do it to light the cats off and meet emissions on cold starts. Although, 2000 rpm is high, normally, it's around 1500 rpm and will step back down based on the coolant temp. Do you have a digital tach so you can get the actually rpm? If it's really 2000, I would have a dealer look at it and they can reflash your pcm if necessary.
