The idle on my 98 Explorer is acting odd when cold. It will start and go straight to 2000 rpm, then go down to 500 rpm and almost stall, then shoot back up to 2000. It cycles like this, but I always just give it the gas and go so it warms up, because when warm I don't have this problem. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Had the same problem, found out it was intake gasket,,,,O rings.Try spraying
some C R 56 around intake while running,if you hear it picking up rpm's.Then you may have found the problem.
No, I ended up selling it at the dealer auction for half of what it was worth. I really think it was an intake gasket though, so I'd say that's a good place to look first. I was in Mechanicsburg once last year for work, that's a fairly nice town. I remember there being a central area that had a lot of nice stores and restaurants. Is that tool place still open?
