I have heard you run 10.25 gears in your 10.50 housing. I am thinking about going the same route but have a question. Should the integrity of the 10.25 gears be of concern if I tow a 7000 lb trailer?

No. I put 10.25 4.30 gears in my 05 housing. It should be of no concern.

No issues as long as you get the 10.25 pinion bearing as the inner pinion bearing is taller on the 10.25 compared to the 10.5.

I didn't have any issues hooking up to a stuck 40 ton semi....

just curious, WHY???? why not just get the gears that are supposed to be in the housing. is there a difference in price or are you getting the gears from another truck...

Because they don't make all the ratios in a 10.5" gear set.

Sometimes you only have the choice of a 10.25".

FWIW it's the exact same housing and carrier either way.......just different ring and pinion and inner pinion bearing.

oh,ok. i didnt know about it being the same housings. wish it was easy to do the 4.30's in my X. Iput a set of 5.13's in my dodge with detroit lockers front and rear and that sucked. why couldn't it be as easy as doing the ones in my mustang with the 9" in it. do everything on a bench.

The axle housing is the exact same, just the ring gear diameter changed (and the pinion set up that goes with it).

IIRC most aftermarket gears are 10.25 anyway.
