The check engine light just came on in my 2006 F250 6.0 and i checked it with my code reader, i cant exactlly remember the code but it said that the exhaust recirculation was excessive, i also checked my coolant level and it was down about 3 litres.
The exhaust isnt coming out white, and it doesnt smell sweet, my best guess is that the EGR Valve is NFG, but im pretty green with diesels.
Any expert advice?

I'm not expert. But you have a code for EGR, so it's not functioning properly. Pull your EGR valve, check it, clean it, and try to lift the back of your truck, and look in to the hole ( EGR valve ) , and see if there is any visible wet, coolant looking liquid. That 3 liter coolant went somewhere, check the de-gas bottle for white residue around. You eather have a coolant leak, or possibly HG, more likely EGR cooler issue. The code and the coolant loss together makes me believe this.
Welcome to FTE
and what milage is on your truck?
and did you ever clean the egr valve.
you might want to take it out and see how bad is it, you can get gasket kit , cause you going to need new o-rings too. Ford has them...
stick ere longer , you going to learn much more about diesels...
haha awesome fellas thanks for the help, i couldnt tell you if its ever been cleaned before, its got 120 000 km on it, i just called and priced out a new egr valve and gasket kit, it comes to $270 together but i guess i will hold off while a rip it apart quick and check
If it's loosing coolant then there could be an issue. Does it run hotter than normal lately? Does the fan seem to be kicking in more often than before? Do you tow heavy? Do you run a tuner?
Actually it runs cooler than usualy, which i thought was kinda weird, not significantly cooler but slightley, i dont tow heavy, its a large truck though, theres a decent amount of weight from all the mods, and the slip tank and tool box and such, i was running a tuner, but took it out a while ago

These are the exact symptoms of my truck with 38,000 miles and it was my EGR cooler.
well i hope that is the case here, i am not going to be able to work on the truck for a few days, im at work right now, but if it is the egr that would be alot better than the HG that i was hoping it wasnt going to be
