Ok,
I believe I have ZE answer!
Go to your User CP and select "Edit Options"
Scroll down to "Messaging & Notification " and "Private Messaging"
Place a check mark in box to the left of "Enable Private Messaging"
This will enable private messaging.......You can also change all the other options if you like...

Sam made a good point. Try saving the changes. It might even be worthwile to log out and log back in, heck, while you're at it shut down the whole danged brain box and restart everything.....who knows

I am still in the same boat. I sent FOMOCO1 a request to get it turned on. I belong to probably a dozen of these things and they are all similar but I just can't seem to get the PM part on this thing to work to save my life. Thank you for all the help and suggestions though. You guys were very detailed and I'm glad you are all out there to answer my future questions on my truck?
