Exhaust size for a 460
A freind of mine is installing a Banks Power Pack system on his 1990 F-250 460 4x4. It comes with headers, K&N filter, a huge muffler, and 3-1/2" pipe out the back. I'm a little confused, however, because it will be 3" going in the muffler, so I don't know what good the 3-1/2" outlet and tail pipe will do. E-mail me kmonette@idapac.com and I will update you on the performance. He pulled the heads last night to have a couple of broken exhaust studs lazered out. I'm sure it will be back together by the 1st of the week. He also is installing a Superchip at the same time.

If it has dual exhaust, and your 460 has a mild cam in it,go with 2 1/2" duals. If your '56 has a single exhaust, then 3" would be fine.I'd suggest dual 3" only if you had a more aggressive camshaft, aftermarket heads,and/or plan to add a supercharger to your 460.Dual 3" exhaust might sound good on your current 460,but you'll lose low end response(torque) for street cruising. Before I added the supercharger to my truck's EFI460,I had dual 3" exhaust put on.(I knew I was adding the blower&a better cam to the 460 soon after...)It seemed to lack the bottom end power, but it did have more mid range&top end power.Remember,in a heavy vehicle, like a truck, torque is your friend.Had I not planned on a supercharger&the better cam,I would've went with 2 1/2" duals, instead.
