Hi All,
First post, and a question.
I took in my 2008 F350 diesel for a recall,#08B07, which Ford said was to notify via the dash readout when the emissions was starting to burn off the diesel particulates and when its finished. Took it for a spin after, and I have much improved fuel economy. The best I ever did up to this point empty was 12.9 mpg. This trip, which was 70 miles averaged a little over 17mpg. I verified the dash mpg readout by filling up and doing the math. So Im getting almost 5mpg better since the reprogram based on the first 70 miles. Anyone else get better milage after this recall? Think the improved milage will stick?
Thanks for any info, I scanned over previous threads and didnt see an answer. I only got the recall notice last week BTW.

There seems to be more people with a slight increase in mileage than no change at all. With the new flash it will not regen at idle and I believe while in cruse control. The bulletin came out in September 08. If your truck was bought after that it probably has the flash.
nycsteve, See what your results are over time regarding mileage. When they perform the reflash it resets the computer. When I first picked up my truck (new) it said 18 mpg and I thought everyone on here was crazy. But after a week of driving the truck I was averaging 13 and reality set in. Also, when I picked it up it said 425 miles to empty but I have never seen it that high since.
Some people have reported the same results after the flash. Initially it appears the mileage is really good but after a week or so it settles back down. In some cases it is still an increase but not as great as it seemed on the drive home from the dealer.
Keep us posted on your results because everyone on here would love to hear that those mpg numbers can be sustained.

the mileage till empty of 425 is more like a factory default. As the computer learns your actual mpg then it readjusts to give a better est of distance to empty.
These guys are right. It's a false reading. I was getting 20mpg after my reflash. But that dropped real fast. I am now getting 1-2mpg WORSE than before the flash. So I am now at 11-12mpg city and 12-13 highway. This is on an regular cab with 400lbs in the back.
I have no real idea about improved MPG after the re flash since there are so many variables on a day to day basis. After 150 miles I think there is a slight improvement. I will relay on the expertise of the folks who did and have knowledge of the re flash who tell me there SHOULD be a slight improvement. I have never been disappointed in the MPG of this truck towing a13 K plus 5Th wheel and when driving solo and using my driving habits.
I just got my truck, 08 F-250, flashed with the latest version today. on my drive home I experienced the same you all have said, very good MPG.
The most striking thing? The motor seems to idle lower and the new shift points make the motor do a lot more work at lower rpm's. Having driven my truck for 70,000+ miles, I was immediately surprised at the difference. I was quite used to the way it was.
I got the feeling that the motor resisted anything over 2000 rpm, the turbo is used more and comes on quicker, and the shift into overdrive was much sooner than it used to be. It is kind of pleasant but I hope the tow/haul mode works well. Can't wait to see what happens the next few weeks.

My mileage is 10% or more better. It does regen in cruise control though.
