A co-worker just bought a BD power pup. I believe this thing plugs into the port under the dash and can reprogram the computer three different ways. He offered to put it on mine and switch to the first setting (50-70 hp increase). Any experience with these and what will it do to EGT. I keep hearing that high EGT is the death of a diesel. Mine is an 03 250SD CC with 15K miles and is bone stock. My first deisel and I don't want to screw it up. My regular driving is getting me 17 mpg on average. Better milage would be nice, but the thing already does better than the 01 5.4 F150 that it replaced.
The most that I have seen in the performance setting is between 800-900 degrees, and unless you have an aluminized steel exhaust I heard that you can go up as high as 1250 and not worry if you don't stay at that threshold all the time, but unless I really dog it in the performance setting I get low 600's(with just using the tow setting and driving respectively) but I also have a 4" exhaust and no cat, I'm sure if you had the factory 3.5 exhaust, you'll probably average 50-100 degrees more then me. I wouldn't see a problem unless you just really become a throttle monster with it.
As a BD rep, he will not be able to use the tuner on your truck. The tuner pulls the original code certain other codes out of the system and stores them. Each system has its own codes. The chance of two trucks having the exact same codes is near impossible.
