keeping warm.

after 2 weeks of freezing while trying to keep the thermostat down due to a 200 dollar gas bill (and im in a single-wide 14x70 trailer) i remembered a christmas gift my dad got me 10+ years ago, i used it once out in the shed, then drained it, hung it up from the rafters with a garbage bag over it and forgot about it-until last fri. upon researching it, the newest it could be would be 1982, due to no tip-over safety feature this heater was discontinued and no longer made, the only i.d. is the "perfection" name/triangle and on the fuel reservoir it says to use #500 wick. it works absolutly great and is very effecient. kerosene is about 3.00 a gallon locally, ive only been going thru about a 1/2 gallon a day. hopefully the next gas bill will be much better, im certainally much warmer now. cant beleive id forgotton about this antique. heres a pic:

Be very careful of carbon monoxide fumes. As for the cold weather it is probably (like just about everything else) due to global warming.

Carbon Monoxide detectors are widely available, and cheap, going for anywhere from $20 to $50. They are a cheap, easy and reliable safety measure for anyone who uses any kind of fuel for heating.

Those kerosene heaters do put out a lot of heat. However. leave a window in the room slightly cracked, and if you have kids or pets don't leave it unattended! That heater does not have the safety measure that shuts it off immediately if he goes over. It will give off a lot of heat for only a few $, BUT BE SAFE WITH IT!!!

I have 1 of those heaters, they are great!. Use it in the garage, its the only room I trust it in.........But since we have all electric heat, a bad storm could call it into "house" service pretty quickly!

Just don't get drunk, and trip/pass out over it. I used to know a guy who did that, biggest fire that little town had ever seen.

My dad's got one of those when his furnace died. I don't think he's getting his furnace fixed he's in love with that little heater. And keeping the window's cracked for the carbon monoxide will let a little fresh air in too.

Thats all we had in our trailer for years after are main heater died and we couldn't afford a new one. I just picked up a large kerosun at a yardsale brand new in the box with a new pump hose for $5.00, thing really kicks out the heat I use it in my 12x24 garage when I can afford fuel $4.25 a gal here for kereo and only one place in the whole county has it.
I remember having one like that(only smaller) when I was a kid I used it outdoors in the winter when I would be working on my dirtbike, it helped me warm up my hands.
