EFI what can be removed

What can I remove from 90 5.0L motor, better yet what sensors does it require to run well. I've blanked off the EGR return. Can I remove air purge solenoids, canister sensor , etc ? I've retained the O2 sensors obviously, but how far can I go ?

You can remove the whole air injection system, just leave the solenids by the coil electrically plugged in. Defeating the EGR actually hurts power some, it's a pretty tidy system on that motor so you're not gaining much by deleting it. All sensors must remain for the susyem to function properly, that's just how it is. If you just want to clean up the engine bay you'll have that once all the air pumbing is removed. If you want more power that's easy too, just replace the exhaust system and select a cam to work with the EFI system. That's it, no jetting necessary.

so those solenoids by the coil dont have to have anything (vacuum lines) hooked up to them? my project truck is running but havent gotten it perfect and the only vacuum line i have on correct for sure is the one for the brake booster. is this all i need for it to run good? id love to delete the egr and if i did what do i need to block off? if anything or can i just take the parts off

Efi

Thanks for the article link; from what it stated, the WOT relay disables all heavy loads like AC, heater etc.
This 5.0L is in my 1950 F1, so I'm trying to clean up the engine compartment and wiring. Can I delete the WOT relay ?

There is no WOT relay, the computer does that. You need a vacuum line on the FPR, on the brake brake booster, on the EVR, and between the EVR and EGR valve. If you delete the EGR you will get codes and it may make the engine prone to detonation. It's worth a try but retain the parts in case you need to put it back on. All vacuum lines on the TAB and TAD valves can be removed. Edelbrock truck intake is a complete waste of money on that motor, it'll need a better cam and much better heads before the stock intake becomes a restriction.

AC WOT relay

Paul;

I am using 1990 Crown Victoria 5.0L ; from the wiring diagrams , and under the hood there is a relay that is wired to the EEC pinouts #10, 64 powered from the EEC relay. Can I delete this ? I'm cleaning up the wiring, have removed AC, Cruise, etc Want only the "bare bones" left so truck drives.
Later

Tom
