well ive had my dp tuner for 1 year now just about and this is my first real winter with it and im scared to turn it on any more b/c it sound ultra loud and clackky at idle and even louder when driving and ive heard alot of people supposely blowing there trucks up with dp. and then ive also heard not to drive around in 120 its not good? why? my truck drives better in 120 then 80 my trans doesnt do funny things soo if someone can give me some insight i just cant afford to blow my truck up as lol im sure no one can. thanks
From what everybody,s concern is to start out on the stock mode first until your truck is up to operating temps then switch to your higher settings. These engines are gonna clicky clanky when its cold, their diesels. I was told by Jody himself that the 120 and above are play tunes, not for extended driving because of the aggressive fueling and so on. Others will chime in their thoughts soon.
My programs from DP-Tuner are a bit louder when the engine is cold, but once it's warmed up they all sound pretty much the same. At idle, you can't tell the difference between any setting. Accelerating, cruising, etc they all sound pretty close.
If you have idle noise with different settings, something is wrong. If I were you, I would call Jody and see what might be happening.

It's not the DP Tuner causing them to blow engines, they're just being pushed too hard. DP, TW, SuperChips, HyperTech.... if you don't have the foundation for XYZ horsepower, you will blow. Heck, if someone's enough of an idiot, they could probably blow a stock one up... (more likely with a 6.0 than a 7.3 though!! )

Mike got it straight from Jody: 120 & up are "play" tunes; not every day, all day tunes like the 80E. I'm in 80E 99% of the time, with 60,000 miles on her... no problems.

You also have a Terminator setup that can supply plenty of juice at all times, so that may be why you don't hear anything different.

So I should start on the stock setting until it warms up? I have been starting it and a few seconds later putting it to the high idle setting. Is that going to be a problem?
i always let the PCM run the high idle when its cold..the pcm waits for the right condition (oil temp) before it idles up..i also dont move out of stock tune till the temps have come up...you never want to start it cold in a high HP tune...i always shut down in the stock tune to give the injectors time to balance out..
lol well that's different..wish it was 70 here...you should be ok then..let it idle enough for the oil to build up and move around a couple minutes then hit the high idle..the pcm wont go into high idle till the out side temps are down around 40
Yeah it's been nice, I don't like to drive it until I see the temp move over so I just let it idle for a few minutes. I can't even comprehend what 16 degrese with a windchill would be.

I don't think starting it in 80E is going to hurt anything if you are just idling. The cylinder pressures at idle should all be very similar. Now if you are driving it around when it's below 40 or 50 degrees in one of the tunes, and it hasn't come up to operating temperature, then you are risking some trouble, but idling should pretty much be idling. Jody also says not to start it in high idle because excess wear can occur before the oil gets warm enough to get up to the valve train components.
Thanks for saying that, I got kind of nervous hearing that its not good to start on a tune file. I'll try to keep it on no start then just switch over to stock more often but I tend to forget things. Definately not starting it on high idle, I know how bad that can be.
