Been extremely cold here the past 2 weeks in PA. This is when my tach started acting weird. When the shut the truck off it it stuck at like 3k. Then when I start it up it continues to read high? Any suggestions to why this may be happening? The truck itself isnt running abnormal, just the tach reading? Is it due to the cold? Dont know anything about how tachs work? Any help is appreciated. I drive an 06 PSD...
This is a known problem with the truck especially the 06's for some odd reason. I had it happen to mine. Dealer put in a new instrument cluster under warranty and all is well
You may want to put the cluster into it Test Mod. This will exercise all the guages.
Before turning the key, press and hold the Trip button, then turn the key ON (not start). The ODO will display TEST, then release the button. You can now start the truck. Now with each press of the Trip button it will cycle through various readings. One of the first is Guage. This sweeps all the guages full sweep then returns to normal.
