I bought mine when I was 19 as well. Two years later and it has turned out to be the best investment I have made up to this point. I use mine for towing a decent amount, but not as much as some guys on here. The truck has become sort of a hobby for me, and I love it. I wouldn't get ride of it for the world. When she does finally die on me, I plan to throw in a new motor and keep on goin. Get a diesel, you'll understand why after you've bought it. lol

yeah, i dont haul much... if this thing cant haul a pair of motorcycles, she's got problems...lol
i
m just hopin for good fuel econ... im already putting money aside for stacks and for an intake. after that, i will do the DP tuner...or should i do tuner first, then exhaust???

Im not familiar with your area Tyler, but if you get snow and mud and crap alot, and you like to play around with your truck abit, I would recomend looking at a 4x4. I have nothing against a 4x2, but up here where I live, a 4x4 is a must to have, at least one in the household!

For mods ive always read do them like this, intake, exhaust, gauges, then tuner.

Then be prepared to get a better paying job, cause the guys in here will help you lighten your wallet in no time!

Oil capacity is 15qts.

Tranny capacity is around 18-20qts.

Coolant capacity is 32.75qts

You can do the math for how much that will cost.

My '97 F-150 was ready for a rebuild at 150K. My '03 has 177K and I'm looking at another 250-300K if I take care of it. I'll be replacing some stuff along the way (injectors, HPOP, ball joints, all of which are not cheap) but I love my tank. My 2wd F-150 got 12mpg and my 4wd F-250 gets 16.5mpg overall. That's over a 33% improvement in fuel economy and I don't even have any tunes. So even though diesel is more expensive than unleaded, I'm still saving money overall at the pump.

If you go diesel, I would recommend any 7.3L or an 05-06 6.0L (depending on your price range). The only 99-03 to watch out for is '01. The automatic had a diode issue (easily solved if you fix it before it gives out on you) and that was a transition year for several components (forged rods to powdered metal rods and front axle went from a Dana 50 to a Dana 60) so if you look at 2001s make sure you know what you are getting.

nah, our record snow is 6 inches and that was in 1993...
we average 2 to 3 inches per YEAR...lol
and that is usually gone by lunch time...
the only off road i do is the occasional pulling around behind the house... i will be putting BF Goodrich Mud Terrains on it so i can pull out of the ditches i back into easier... i back into ditches to make bike loadin easier...
yeah, i gotta do exhaust soon... i gotta hear it...lol and the 6637 (?) filter is pretty cheap i guess... is that better than a CAI??
but i make decent money, so im ready to start dumpin some on a new toy!! lol

yeah... i may just dodge the 2001's alltogether then...lol
dont wanna lemon...
i think i would be stupid at this point to get a gasser... at least its starting to sound that way... although, everyone that has never owned a diesel says its stupid, since diesel is so high right now and since diesels are so expensive to keep up... but im noticing that everyone who actually HAS or has had a diesel is very happy with it and will never go back to a gasser...lol

I was a die hard spark plug man until about 2 years ago. I was originally looking for some big block gasser power but the more I looked around, talked to people and drove some trucks I saw the light...life without spark plugs and gobs of pulling power just off idle! I wanted a truck to last me 20 years and I got it in the 7.3. Nothing against the 6.0 guys but an '05-'06 was not in the budget for me at the time, so it was an '02-'03 7.3 for me. I couldn't be happier. I can't believe I didn't convert sooner. What man doesn't want 500+ lb-ft of torque at 1600rpm? At 40, I don't zoom around like I used to (obeying all the rules of the road of course) so setting the cruise at 1800rpm and sailing down the road at 65mph is just fine with me. I'll never go back.

there are a few still out there, but a low milage crew with 7.3 is getting hard to find and add long bed to the mix are scarce as hens teeth
if super cab was an option there are some deals on them

Wouldn't be a bad buy at $12k

You must like to spend time cleaning your bikes.... ALOT.

Stacks + humid air + lots of nooks & crannies = WORK

Even without the humidity, your bikes will get filthy in the bed of your truck... that's why I never chromed or polished my bikes. Even if we're talking dirtbikes, you'll be clogging your air filter as you drive to your riding location...

I know lots of reasons to stay clear from a 6 liter truck, of all years, but I wont get into it on here right now

Theres nothing wrong with a gasser at all, they have their place among trucks. Go take a gas truck for a test drive, then go take a diesel. You will see right away what most of us are talking about here!

See if you can wipe that smile off of your face for the rest of the day too!

Stacks are a VERY bad ideal if you plan on having bikes in the back of the truck like Brendan said. When I was at our local diesel meet I was reminded why stacks are bad on a white truck.

Though you can always go with a hoodstack and only get the front and top of your truck dirty. Hood Stack Girls not included.
