i have an 83 302 v8 and i bought the weiand 7515 intake and im planing on buyin an edelbrock 1406 carb, do ya think i should get a performance cam also? if so what kind?
everything on the motor is stock except for the edlebrock air intake wit k&n filter
That's the wrong manifold for your truck. You are not going to like it. You should have gotten a dual plane intake. What tranny and rearend gear do you have?
I agree with Franklin. That manifold is wrong for your truck. You will be much happier with a dual plane intake manifold. The single plane you picked out is for drag racing, when top end power is what you are after. With that manifold, your bottom end torque is really going to suffer. And with a little 302 in a heavy truck, you need all the torque you can get!
The Edelbrock 1406 carb is okay though. I think the 500 cfm will be a better match for your needs, though.
Hate to hijack this thread but I am going to rebuild my 351W this summer gonna run a ZF 5spd with a 3.50 rear end. Should I get a dual plane intake and about 600 CFM carb for the best low end torque and power?
i appreciate all the responses. ya think a weiand stealth intake would be better?
and say i do keep this 7515, do ya think if i put headers, cam and performance distributor will help it out?
If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our custom curved Duraspark Distributor built with our new Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing. The full length bushing improves timing stability and spark scatter. If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. Whether you choose the Duraspark or the D.U.I., we curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at: http://performancedistributors.com/forddistributors.htm
Also, there is now an excellent installation article on the D.U.I. Distributor on the Ford-Trucks.com site at: https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/idx/0/358/article/DUI_Ignition_Installation_In_A_Ford_351W_V8.html
lol nah i know better than racing my extended cab truck wit 22" rims wit that little motor. my carburetor is goin out so i wanted to replace it with the edelbrock and i needed to change my intake so i wanted to upgrade my existing one. the reason i got the weiand intake cuz i got it cheap on ebay but if its not the right one i can just sell it. i was lookin at some intakes on summit and i came across the weiand stealth and the summit stage 1 and 2 ( all 3 have dual planes)
You are on the right track now with those manifolds. I would stay away from the stage 2 manifold though. It says 1500rpm and up. Stick with the ones that say they make power from idle -up.
