I brought my Ranger into get the front passenger side hub looked at because there was a hose which appeared to be severed in two from simple wear and tear. The mechanic told me it was a simple fix and it was a vaccum hose. Ok, here is the question; can someone tell me what the two hoses are going into the front hubs on my Ranger? I know the third one on the back side is the brake line, but what are the other two and what is the purpose? I know I put the truck in 4-wheel drive just this past week and it seemed to work fine, so what is the purpose of these hoses? Thanks in advance for any help.
It is a 1998 3.0L Ext Cab with a manual transmission and the auto 4X4 switch on the dash. I tried to find the hose in my Haynes repair manual, but it doesn't talk about it much. Basically the hose comes down into the hub and if not careful, it could be mistaken for a brake line.
'98 -'00 Rangers use a "pulse vacuum hublock" (PVH) system which accounts for the vacuum hoses you are talking about. If you do a search using those words you will get back a lot of related previous threads full of relevant info.
I have a 2000 ranger w/ the 3.0 and I have had issues this winter with them not wanting to lock in, I have to play with the turn switch on the dash a few times to get it to kick in, I know the transfer is going in but the hubs are not.

I think I like the idea of the manual hubs. I don't want to be stuck in a situation which could have been avoided.
