Exploded sun gear assy?
What causes this to happen. mech wont tell me what caused it. sold truck to a so called friend and comes back two weeks later and says tranny bad and wants me to pay for half. 1999 s\c 5.4 4x4 superchips, gibson exh, k&n filter ,lighted visor, tonneau cover, pias, grille guard, meyer 7.5 plow assy,m\t mtz tires all for 5500. i would say a hell of a deal.

I would love to see pics of the damage. I could tell you a lot more that way.
I am betting that it was a broken intermediate stub shaft. That happens when one allows the truck to make a shift into overdrive at a stupid speed and/or throttle position. It cannot be prevented other than by not doing that and wasn't your fault if that was it.
I suggest asking for the parts back if you decide to help pay for it and post up pics before you do. I bet this isn't anything you should have any responsibility on at all. Don't say that anyone is helping you though or you might not get what we need to see.
