'97 van won't crank
Need help on starting my Van. It is a 1997 E150 with a Titan. Wife went to town, at stop, engine died. When she tried to start, it would only click. Battery was a little low, had it checked, it was OK. I charged the battery and tried to start it, only click. Removed starter and had it checked. Autozone said it was good. Tried another battery that was fully charged, still only get clicks.
Voltage drops to below 8 volts when starter clicks.
Any suggestions?
I wasn't impressed with the test at Autozone. Shop wants to replace alternator (which they did in 2007).
Thanks, Mike

There is also another solenoid near the battery that may be suspect. ( it clicks when you turn ignition key to "on")
Good luck, john
Thanks for the reply. I have cleaned the bat terminals but was considering putting jumper cable to ground to make sure ground is good. I didn't know about the other solenoid. I will have to look for it.
I wasn't thrilled with the starter test, they hooked it up and ran it. I am not sure if they checked anything else. I think it is still suspect.

The JY alternator I pulled for my foster-daughters honda tested OK at the autostore, but died soon after.
Right now I have a battery in my RV that they say is great, BUT the hydrometer test shows the electrolyte gravity in the 'white' zone: partially charged. It never gets into the 'green' zone: fully charged, no matter what I do. Also, when installed, the key-on voltage of the battery is only 4.7volts, which is alarmingly low. And that's after cleaning the posts/clamps AND testing voltage at the posts, not the clamps.
I think that their tests use shortcuts. In the case of batteries, they use a Dummy Load Test which I think is defective. They never check gravity.
