turbo help?

97 f-250 7.3 when driving after a cold start it sounds like i have a exhust brake when i let off the fuel pedal (no engine load) you can hear a sucking sound when hitting the pedal again. i was thinking maby my wastgate is sticking open a small amount but once the truck heats up it runs fine any help would be great thanks..

is your EBPv still plugged in? you could try unplugging it if it is by disconnecting the plug under the turbo inlet

No wastegate its the EBPV like arkredneck said.

what is the ebpv? how should i check to see if it is pluged in?

Its the exhuast Back Presure Valve. the conector it on teh drivverside of the truck just under teh turbo. I belive it 2 wires. Ill see if I can find a pic.

Is there any difference in having it pluged in or not?? I just read another forum about guys plugging the ebpv some how.

There is really no difference in umpluging it othere than it does not work anymore but when it di it hardly did anything anyhow. sometimes they get stuck closed and cuase problems so unpluging it prevents that. I think you are talking about disconecting the valve completly and im not sure on that one but im pretty sure unplugging the conector will do the same thing but easier.

You can unplug it but if you still have problems you may consider wiring it open as well to be sure. Usually just unplugging it works.

i had the same problem and unplugging the connector worked prefectly.

i un pluged it today and it works good. i was about to replace the valve. glad i didnt. thanks for the help guys..

I will stick around. I have been reading alot on this site and have found alot of good info from all you guys. More then i could find in a service book. Thanks again for the help..

so the ebpv. will cause it to sound like it sucking air and by unpluging it it should take care of it? will it also help the flutering sound when the waste gate opens instead of a swoosh
