my neighbor just got a 63 f250 with a 292 engine in it, he's doing a tune up and getting everything up to date exept the wires, at the local auto part stores they kept giving him the wrong ones, they were too short.
have any of you had problems getting the correct wires the right size, or are there other wires for another engine that would work?
they come with a male end at the distributor and female end at the plugs.
thanks.
Adds a whole new twist to dyslexic huh Surprised Bill hasn't jumped on the opportunity to toss the correct part #'s at this one. Has to be something off the shelf that is correct. If they gt the Cap right you'd think the plgs would be good to go ?? Odd.
See if they can get a set of wire for a 59 T-Bird with a 312. They have the same external dimensions.
well we tried different cars with the 292 and 312, thing is it brings up the same part number wich is not right, the longest is still about a foot shorter than what we need.
we did this a four part stores close to home, then we called other explaining the problem, a napa a few miles away said they had what we needed but that will have to wait till tomorrow, for now it's running with new oil, plugs, fuel and air filter. see what happens tomorrow.
I had a custom set of wires come with an engine I just bought. You cut the wires to length. Darndest thing I've seen. I'm used to opening the box and go from shortest to longest and plug it in. They are ford blue though so I may have to keep them.
Makes one wonder if there is a kit where the wire is a roll and you have 16 crimp tanges and 16 boots.
Have you tried looking at a set of wires for say, and early 60's FE 352/390 ?

I'll check tonight to see what we have, if I remember. I know MSD sells a universal kit with the crimper dies in the box. Pretty nice to see that in a kit to be honest.
