Hey everybody, I am so glad to find this forum.
I have a 2002 f250, 5.4 engine. The overdrive light flashing and overdrive
not working. We found codes p0740 and p0743.
We replaced the converter. The client did not want to replace the trans.
We still have the same symtoms and codes.
Can anyone advise me on what to do next.
Thanks everyone!
Robert
The client is right. That would be an even bigger waste of money.
P0741 means the torque converter clutch is not locking and unlocking when the PCM commands it. P0743 means there is an electrical failure in the torque converter clutch control circuit. That means either the torque converter clutch solenoid is bad, or the wiring to the solenoid has a short or open circuit. It's possible that the driver in the PCM is bad, but that is very, very rare. You'll probably come across 1000 wiring faults and 500 bad solenoids before finding a bad PCM.
If you fix the electrical problem all will be well.
