It's not the attachment part Dutch, the issue we're having is trying to is the button that has the IMG code thing.
I've got no clue how you got the smiley to work. I'm currently using Firefox on XP, and Rick uses IE. Neither one of us can use any smiley's. Maybe it's just a conspiracy against the outdated 7.3 crowd (insert smiley face here)
All I did was go to "ADVANCED" and click on the smiley
Now for my next trick - I'm in the advanced edit -
I opened a new window by pressing "CTRL" and "N" at the same time (nifty thing to know about)
I surfed in it to one of my galleries, and copied the image code for one of my fabulous clunkers...
Hopefully - it shows. if it doesn't, the image tags are bollox'd
OH LOOK AT THAT! I told you Rangers were light trucks - THEY FLOAT!
All I did was go to "ADVANCED" and click on the smiley
Thanks for adding that to my last post. Go advance doesn't work either. If I hit the [More] button under the smiles to get a bigger list, I don't even get the pop up window showing the rest of them. It just bumps the screen back to the top of the page. Clearing cookies and re-starting Firefox did not seem to help. Looks like I can still select an icon for a post.
Can I assume you've defragmented your drive as part of regular overnight maintanence?
It doesn't seem to me to be a matter of connection speed because I HAVE THE SLOWEST CONNECTION OF ALL OF US. It's as if the JAVA applet for that is missing, or some such.
I don't know how far KP went incorporating client side java or perl script to speed things up. Nor do I think anything new has been added that I know of. But something must be different....
You are also a supporter - so you have every advantage I do.
type this -
Code:
8D
that's the forum shortcut for one of the smileys - I'm beginning to suspect something...
At the very bottom left of your window there is a block labelled "Posting Rules".
It lists what is turned on and what is turned off.
Mine says:

You may post replies
You may post attachments
You may edit your posts

What does yours say?
Most of these are things you can change in your User CP, and they might have gotten reset somehow.
I have the same problem as Chris. And the bottom of my screen has the same thing that yours have Wolf. Everything on and says I can do anything, but I can't do a darn thing. When I click on a Smilie, my cursor goes away.
The cursor in the message block - or your mouse pointer thingy?
The more we can identify and point to - the better we can narrow it down
Does anything else happen that you noticed?
(One of my skills is to ask seemingly stupid but very definite questions. It comes from dealing with pilots about electronics, and drivers about their cars. "It makes a noise" can be a valve rattle from bad gas or a clutch about to explode. There are clues in what you see messing up)
I think what we should do is look for similarities in the computers affected.
operating system
operating system version/vintage
Browser
Connection speed
Connection type
Supporter or non supporter (I doubt it matters. Supporters are affected)
Year you joined (THAT oddly enough could be significant...)
Core processor (Celeron, Intell, other...)
RAM available (although mine is likely minimal)
Graphics memory available (Like THAT's the issue for a smiley....)
Anything you can think of.
Anything
We need to create a group think tank.
out of it all - people who know what to look for will find out what is going on.
But I wonder why my PC is different from yours - because it does not have that problem.
Are you guys still experiencing the problem by chance?
If so - can you open a support ticket on it?
Thanks!
Adrian
I don't exactly know. The problem was on my desktop at work, the laptop tonight has been having no issues. If the ice storm moves in like they're expecting, it will be a couple of days before I know if I still have the issue, but if I do, or next time I talk to Rick or the others that have asked about this, I'll make sure someone opens a ticket.
I think we had a brief issue late last night/early this morning.
When you jump back on your work computer, try deleting your cache, and that should fix the problem (if it still exists!)
A lot of this is probably cookie and history related. The new forum ware is argueing with whatever is stored locally - and "pockets of resistance" for lack of a better term may be hidden in odd places. The site itself is working, as much is sure from the majority of seamless changeover. But some PC's may have retained memories of the old forums.
If that makes any sense...
As far as I know - nothing new or advanced has been written into the code. It wouldn't be, because it's intended to be "ALL PLATFORM FRIENDLY" - yes?
