I have a 2006 SuperCrew and I'm getting rid of my toolbox to make room for hauling the toys. I am looking to add some more useful storage. Does anybody have any experience with the Husky Gearbox or the Du-Ha model? How do the fit? Do they stay in place pretty well? How much stuff can you really fit in them? The Husky looks a little better, but the Du-Ha looks to have more storage space.
another though to consider is the rear seat lift. A few sound companies make a rear bench lift. I raises the seat about 3" so you can install goodies under there.
I have a DU-HA in my '08 Screw. They are actually a lot sturdier and look much better than the pictures would indicate on their site. They fit well and can be ordered with a lock to prevent raising the seat up to prevent unwanted access. To be honest, you don't really notice the unit unless you know it is there. The unit holds a moderate amount of stuff...spare flashlights, boxes of shotgun shells, an air compresser for the rear air bags, lock de-icer, WD-40, heavy work gloves for tire changes, a small tool kit, space blanket... the usual stuff.
Just a quick question , how do you get to the lock de-icer if its locked in the cab ???? Better yet , how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop??????
Just kidding around , I always wanted one for my Screw . I am just waiting to shed the two car seats for the rug rats!
Does Ford make an underseat accessory for Supercrew trucks? I don't think either of these are larger than my regular cab Ford storage bin.
The real problem is that you have a potential safety hazard if carrying tools in your cab in open storage. And I don't think larger items like a Skil 77 or Milwaukee Sawzall will fit in the storage bins pictured in the web site. Neither of these will replace your tool box.
My personal solution for in-cab storage has been to get small tool bags and separate tools by type. I don't carry larger tools in the cab.
What might work better for you would be some type of side-bed storage boxes, at least for the larger items. Here is a link to one from Geneva (I think some FTE sponsors carry them, too lazy to search):
