ok so i installed a new mallory dizzy in my 360. first it wouldn't start, then i rotated it a little, reinstalled, and she fired right up. i started to adjust the timing, and as i turned the dizzy to get my marks to line up, the idle dropped, then eventually died. now it won't fire back up. i tried rotating it back to where it started the first time, but still nothing. what did i do wrong?
If you turned the dizzy ccw, it retards the timing toward atdc and will die. You turn the dizzy cw to advance the timing. i would try that or get a buddy to kinda twist the dizzy as you crank the key.
"Assuming" it was installed correctly, TDC/ #1 comp stroke/ firing order on the wires/ etc .... **** I dunno !!! Points dizzy ? Dual ? Not that settin those has anything to do with correctly installing it ... but....
had to have installed it right, it ran for about 3 minutes before i started twistin on it. i was turning it cw then it idled way down an died. its a mallory comp 9000 electronic, so no points. tried the buddy crank while i twist, and nothing. so i have no idea what the issue is
Anybody ever try out one of those "spark testers"?
Do they work?
Are they junk?
Are they not needed?
...just go by the color of the spark on a regular ol' spark plug?
What? ;)
i have used spark testers and yes they work, but a screwdriver stuck in the plug wire is way faster.
is the dizzy a UNILITE?? if so how long did you leave the key on without starting the truck??
i used to have a unilite conversion but got rid of it cuz a buddy left the key on for a while without starting the truck and burned out the unilite module.
