Wow less then 300 bucks for Ford V10 headers. Will the shorties hurt towing performance? If yes I wouldn't want to even consider the Ford racing headers...but if improvement gains can be had I sure like the price a whole lot better then the Banks dollars. My budget could handle 300 bucks and a little wrench time to improve my towing. Anyone know if any towing improvement with Ford racing headers...was it worth the time and money? Also, maybe Mike with 5 Star would have some dyno data that compairs the shorties vs the Banks.

I have the Ford headers on my 01 350 crew cab long box. I put them on hoping for the best, but didn't really feel much difference by seat of the pants. Haven't had it on a dyno, but as heavy as it is, it would have to be a big difference to notice. On a side note, I have had them on for two years, going through two Michigan winters on a plow truck, and they are still in pretty nice condition. They are a little discolored, but clean up if you scrub them.

great info in this thread. I think I just ordered a set of stainless FMS for $250!!! lots cheaper than the Banks kit I had on my old '99. It says they are for '04, but should fit my '01 as well, I hope.

Now what to do for the Y-pipe? And muffler too for that matter?

if you decide to make your own headers, it will cost about $600 in material. 5-1 Collector, 1-5/8" pipe, V-10 flanges). It not cheap. and 304 stainless steel

Do you know a good source for the header building materials? I know of Burns stainless but that is top dollar stuff.

Still on the quest for a set of headers and exhaust!!! The place that HAD the headers can't find them! Actually 2 places now. I found a set of ceramic coated Motorsports that a dealer showed in stock, they can't find them either. What a PITA I had Banks on my 99, but I was a Banks dealer then and got a smoking deal on the entire kit, I'm thinking it is around $1600 for the Banks kit? Any advice, not in my budget to drop that kind of cash

3 years later and the manifold gasket on the passenger’s side needs to be replaced. These are no longer available for these trucks. Hopefully the factory manifold gaskets will work, other than that not sure what gesket(s) to use. Other than that these headers have worked well, no issue until now.

Hopefully the shop can get the bolts out without breaking any.

Shop had no luck and gave the truck back. Two other shops turned me away, because they did not want do deal with it. I have been on the fence of getting rid of the truck (was hoping to squeeze another year out of it). I the past 6 months spent $3000 in body work for rust issues, $1000 for new tires, couple hundred for a complete front brake job (with calipers), and now looks like another major headache for the exhaust issue...again. Not sure if the heads can go thru that a third time without coming off. Needed to cut my losses and move on. This truck has become a maintenace nightmare in the last 12 months.

This weekend I ended up trading up to a 2010 XLT diesel CC with 15,000 miles on it. They still "gave" me 7500 for 2001 in trade.
